Challenge

Eurovaistinė, part of the international EUROAPOTHECA group, is one of the leading pharmacy chains in the Baltics, with a vast network of over 274 pharmacies in Lithuania. While Eurovaistinė had an existing eCommerce platform, it struggled to keep pace with the rapidly growing demand in the online shopping sector, particularly after the pandemic. The previous platform lacked the flexibility, scalability, and stability needed to handle significant traffic spikes, especially during high-demand events like Black Friday or Christmas sales. Additionally, security and performance issues led to frequent downtimes, resulting in lost transactions and a poor user experience. Eurovaistinė needed a robust, secure, and scalable eCommerce platform to maintain its competitive edge and expand into new markets.

Solution

Baltic Amadeus partnered with Eurovaistinė to build a brand-new eCommerce platform based on Sylius, an open-source headless eCommerce solution known for its flexibility and high performance. This solution allowed for a one-time platform transition, avoiding the complexity of maintaining two systems simultaneously. The new platform was designed to accommodate various features, including same-day and next-day delivery options, selling veterinary products, multiple payment methods, loyalty programs, and integrations with ERP and warehouse management systems. The solution also facilitated secure and seamless user data migration, ensuring compliance with industry standards for data protection. The platform was developed and launched for Lithuania, Latvia (Azeta.lv), and Estonia (euroapteek.ee), supporting Eurovaistinė’s expansion into the Baltic region.

Results

The new Sylius-based eCommerce platform eliminated critical issues Eurovaistinė had faced, such as downtimes, poor UX, and instability. The platform now handles large volumes of traffic effortlessly, including spikes seen during major sales events. It provides enhanced flexibility, allowing Eurovaistinė to quickly adapt to evolving customer needs and promotional opportunities. The project also laid the groundwork for successful market expansion into Latvia and Estonia, with the launch of Azeta.lv and euroapteek.ee platforms. Overall, the new solution delivered improved performance, security, and user experience, positioning Eurovaistinė as a leader in the e-pharmacy market across the Baltic region.
