Mobile Artificial Intelligence App Revolutionizes Personal Safety
Challenge
RightThere Corporation (RTC), founded in 2018, is a Female Business Enterprise (FBE) and minority-owned safety organization dedicated to protecting all citizens, especially in marginalized communities. It supports law enforcement in serving vulnerable populations.
RTC partnered with Chetu to create a web portal and an interactive mobile app featuring AI capabilities, including machine learning, facial recognition, IoT, and GPS, to assist community members in high-risk situations such as domestic violence, abductions, or unsafe urban areas.
Now, these applications are publicly accessible, providing tools to help residents manage risky encounters.
RTC’s founder, Maria Watkins, and board president, Torrence Williams, assembled a skilled team to develop an app that collects real-time data, records interactions, identifies threats with facial recognition, and alerts authorities. They prioritized a team with experience in AI and wearable devices, aligning with their goal of preventing crimes against marginalized groups.
During the selection process, they valued partners who understood their mission. After evaluating several, they chose Chetu, which showed strong commitment. Williams said, “It was crucial for us to feel understood by our partners, to see that they truly aligned with our mission to empower vulnerable populations. Chetu not only understood but was also committed to our cause.”
Watkins mentioned Chetu’s support, noting a discount on initial costs since the project was bootstrapped. She added, “Our Chetu account manager provided us with a down payment discount, which was vital in helping us start and sustain this important initiative.”
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to leveraging technology for community safety and equity, creating impactful solutions for those in need.

Solution
The Approach
Chetu’s team of developers engineered a Cloud-based web portal application that followed an MVVM design pattern approach, which is a structured pattern used to separate program logic and user interface controls. A web portal differs from a typical website in that it gathers information from multiple sources into a single user interface to present the most pertinent information to the user.

Results
Effecting Change Via Technology
As of the project’s completion, the web and mobile device applications are now online and fully functional. Everyone is proud of what was built through this partnership, and RTC is working with a marketing company to officially launch the app in the very near future. Asked about their experience with Chetu, Ms. Watkins had this to say:
“The website and app are great. The development team was amazing. They were very helpful and we had exceptional team leaders. We also had constant weekly meetings, which were also helpful in keeping us updated. The team was great to work with. This industry is not overly saturated, and I feel we have an excellent chance for success with this app.”
Mr. Williams shared his experience as well, stating:
“Our development team was outstanding and they felt like family; we were blessed to wind up with Chetu and our team. They gave us everything they had and did whatever they were asked. They were on board with our mission.”
“Chetu’s team was able to go in very quickly and understand the project. I have worked with other companies that had a hard time understanding what the goal was. So that was very positive. Chetu understood the goal and structured the project very quickly. They were very organized, hit deadlines well, and were excellent at keeping us updated on the progress.”
“They understood that in these current times that we live in, this app isn’t about profit. It’s about empowering people to protect themselves. As a retired police captain, I have seen both sides of this equation, and this will also be helpful to police because, as police, we have to protect and serve all people.”
With the potential for further development that would include wearable device functionality such as wristbands, there is hope for a continued working relationship that would help RTC expand on their mission of empowering people to have more control of their personal safety.
