Challenge

Our team undertook the task of enhancing the gaming landscape by developing an emotionally immersive point-and-click adventure, "When the Past Was Around." The challenge lay in creating an interactive narrative that transcended traditional dialogue-based storytelling, conveying a bittersweet journey of love, loss, and personal growth.

Solution

A. Art-Driven Storytelling: We collaborated with the talented Indonesian artist, Brigitte Rena, to convey the narrative through evocative artwork, rather than relying on textual dialogue. This approach aimed to elicit emotions and connections solely through visual artistry. B. Narrative Puzzles: We integrated puzzles that mirrored the emotional journey of the characters. Players needed to engage deeply with the story, solving puzzles that unveiled the heartfelt moments and complexities of love and life. C. Surreal World Design: Our team created a surreal world composed of fragmented memories and time. These disjointed rooms served as metaphorical manifestations of the characters' emotions, enhancing the immersive storytelling experience.

Results

Players became emotionally invested in Eda's journey, experiencing her challenges, growth, and emotions. B. Artistic Expression: The collaboration with Brigitte Rena resulted in a truly novel storytelling approach. The narrative unfolded through captivating visual art, allowing players to interpret emotions and experiences in a deeply personal manner. C. Engaging Exploration: The surreal world's design, comprised of scattered memories and rooms, added depth to the narrative.
