Challenge

Creating WAGMI Defense meant bringing together several complex systems into one seamless experience.

The game needed to deliver everything players expect from a modern strategy title. Battles had to feel exciting, progression needed to be rewarding, and every decision during gameplay had to matter. At the same time, the client wanted to introduce blockchain features, NFT collectibles, and Play-to-Earn mechanics without overwhelming players who were simply looking for a fun game.

Finding the right balance wasn't easy.

The gameplay also had to support both PvP and PvE modes. That meant designing systems that felt fair and competitive while keeping the experience engaging for players who preferred solo progression.

Another major challenge was building multiplayer functionality that could handle real-time battles smoothly. Performance, synchronization, and matchmaking all had to work reliably, even as the player base grew.

On top of that, WAGMI Defense had a unique visual identity. Every character, environment, and collectible needed to support the game's futuristic world while helping players easily recognize units and gameplay elements during intense matches.

It was a project that demanded technical expertise, creative storytelling, and careful game balancing all at once.

Solution

The team worked closely with the client to define the game's core mechanics before moving into development. Every system was designed to support strategic gameplay while keeping the learning curve approachable for new players.

Unity was selected as the primary game engine, allowing the team to build smooth gameplay with detailed environments, responsive controls, and high-quality animations.

To support multiplayer battles, Cubix developed a scalable backend using Node.js, Nakama, MongoDB, and TypeScript. This architecture allowed players to compete in real time while maintaining stable performance across different devices.

One of the biggest priorities was making Web3 features feel natural instead of forced.

NFT collectibles were integrated into the game economy, giving players true ownership of selected in-game assets. The team also implemented Play-to-Earn functionality and multi-chain support without interrupting the core gameplay experience. Players could enjoy the game first and explore blockchain features when they were ready.

The visual side of the project received just as much attention.

Cubix collaborated on creating a distinctive sci-fi art style filled with detailed environments, futuristic characters, and collectible assets that gave the game its own identity. Every design choice helped reinforce the story of humanity defending Earth against powerful cyborg and alien enemies.

Extensive testing and balancing followed throughout development. The team continuously refined gameplay mechanics, adjusted difficulty levels, improved matchmaking, and optimized performance to ensure a smooth experience for both casual and competitive players.

After two years of development, WAGMI Defense evolved into a complete multiplayer gaming experience that successfully combined strategy, storytelling, and Web3 technology.

Results

WAGMI Defense delivered exactly what the project set out to achieve, a strategy game that feels rewarding to play while introducing players to modern blockchain gaming in a practical way.

Players can build defenses, collect unique characters, battle opponents in real time, and earn valuable digital assets, all within a single connected ecosystem. The experience feels complete because every feature supports the gameplay instead of distracting from it.

The game's multiplayer infrastructure provides reliable matchmaking and smooth online battles, allowing players to compete without frustrating interruptions.

The addition of NFT collectibles and Play-to-Earn mechanics also created new opportunities for player engagement. Rather than existing as standalone features, they became meaningful parts of the game's progression system.

Visually, WAGMI Defense established a strong identity through its futuristic environments, hand-crafted character designs, and immersive world-building. The unique art direction helped distinguish the game from traditional tower defense titles while strengthening its storytelling.
