Their goal was to replace their old Magento 1 platform with a new, powerful Magento 2 e-commerce system. We had to build a custom script from scratch to ensure a perfect transfer of all customer, order, and product information without any data loss.
Bespoke Shipping Logistics: Unlike most businesses that use third-party couriers, Dessert Lady relies on its own drivers for local deliveries in Toronto. This meant we couldn't use a standard shipping calculator. We developed a custom shipping system that calculates delivery fees based on a customer's specific address and Toronto's unique traffic and geographical zones.
A Streamlined Checkout Experience: To reduce abandoned carts and make shopping easier, we designed a one-page checkout. This simplified the entire process, consolidating multiple steps into one intuitive page. We also added an auto-address fill feature that uses an address lookup service to help customers complete their information quickly and accurately.
POS System Integration: A key business requirement was to connect the new website to the in-store Point of Sale (POS) system so that in-store table orders could be processed through the website's backend. However, a lack of cooperation from the POS provider's technical team complicated the process.
