Dyne App: User Journey Update for a Restaurant Aggregator
Challenge
Dyne App is a web-based restaurant aggregator that allows guests to browse menus, place orders, pay without a waiter, split bills, and use loyalty programs – all via QR code. By the time our team joined, the product had accumulated several critical UX issues impacting conversion and user satisfaction.
The main pain points included: unclear price and tax breakdowns leading to payment disputes, a restrictive and unintuitive bill-splitting flow, underused cashless tipping due to poor placement in the interface, and a cluttered restaurant page that made navigation difficult. These friction points resulted in slower table turnover, increased support requests, and low engagement with key features.
Our challenge was to redesign the entire user journey – from QR scan to payment confirmation – without disrupting the existing infrastructure. We needed to introduce transparent pricing, build a flexible bill-splitting system (pay per dish, custom amounts, or equal split), create an engaging tipping widget, and restructure the restaurant page to balance venue branding with consistent UX. Additionally, we had to simplify the loyalty program logic, which supported three overlapping bonus systems (aggregator, restaurant, and Vodafone), making it clear which bonuses were available and how to use them.
All of this had to remain lightweight, mobile-first, and adaptable across regions with different payment methods and POS integrations.

Solution
Our Lead UI/UX Designer joined the Dyne App team to systematically address each pain point and improve the overall user experience.
Transparent Pricing. We added an expandable price breakdown showing dish cost, taxes, and additional options separately. This eliminated confusion and reduced payment-related disputes.
Flexible Bill Splitting. We designed a new flow where the first guest to scan the QR code becomes the "admin" and chooses how to split the bill: pay for specific dishes, enter a custom amount, or divide equally among all guests. Others simply scan the same QR code and see their calculated share instantly. For solo diners, a "Pay in Full" button keeps the process simple.
Engaging Tipping Widget. Previously, cashless tips were rarely used due to poor visibility. We introduced a dedicated widget on the pre-payment screen with preset percentages and a custom amount option. Emoji icons were added to increase engagement and make tipping feel more personal.
Redesigned Restaurant Page. We restructured the interface to prioritize core actions: ordering, payment, feedback, and loyalty. The new template maintains a consistent visual identity across the platform while respecting each venue's branding.
Simplified Loyalty Program. Dyne App supports three bonus types: aggregator-level, restaurant-specific, and Vodafone-based (for authenticated users). We configured clear bonus display for each venue and made switching between programs intuitive. Usage rules are now transparent – Vodafone bonuses are always available, while users choose between restaurant and Dyne bonuses.
Payment Integration. We ensured seamless support for Apple Pay, Google Pay, credit cards, and mobile banking, with available methods adapting to the user's region and the restaurant's POS system.
The result: faster ordering and payment, higher table turnover, fewer disputes, and increased engagement with tips and loyalty programs – improving the experience for both guests and venues.

Results
The UX/UI improvements we implemented for Dyne App delivered measurable impact across key metrics and significantly enhanced the experience for both restaurant guests and venue operators.
Faster Table Turnover. Streamlined ordering and payment flows reduced the time guests spent on transactions. Restaurants reported less downtime between seatings, directly increasing revenue capacity during peak hours.
Fewer Payment Disputes. The transparent price breakdown – showing dish cost, taxes, and extras separately – eliminated confusion at checkout. Support requests related to billing dropped noticeably.
Higher Cashless Tipping Adoption. The new tipping widget with preset percentages and emoji engagement elements made leaving tips effortless and appealing. Cashless tip frequency increased significantly compared to the previous version, boosting staff satisfaction.
Improved Bill Splitting Experience. Group diners now handle payments independently without waiter involvement. The flexible splitting options (per dish, custom amount, equal share) reduced friction and sped up the checkout process for parties of all sizes.
Increased Loyalty Program Engagement. Clear bonus display and intuitive switching between aggregator, restaurant, and Vodafone programs made the loyalty system easier to understand and use. More guests started actively applying bonuses, generating valuable analytics for partner venues.
Consistent Yet Branded Interface. The redesigned restaurant page maintained a unified visual identity across the platform while preserving each venue's unique branding. This balance reinforced trust in the aggregator while letting restaurants feel ownership of their digital presence.
Positive Client Feedback. The Dyne App team was highly satisfied with the collaboration. The project reinforced our reputation in the foodtech space and came as a direct referral from a previous client – a testament to the quality of our UX/UI approach.
Overall, the updates transformed Dyne App into a smoother, more engaging product that delivers real value to restaurants and their guests alike.
