Challenge

The client aimed to disrupt the standard delivery model by offering extreme speed (delivery in 5-15 minutes). Unlike traditional e-commerce where users browse a static warehouse inventory, this model relied on roaming inventory.

The technical challenge was to build a system where:

  • Users cannot order items unless a delivery vehicle carrying that specific stock is physically within their geofenced vicinity.
  • Notifications must be triggered in real-time as the vehicle moves through neighborhoods.
  • Synchronization between the driver’s location and the user’s app availability had to be precise to guarantee the 15-minute promise.

Solution

We developed two native iOS applications that communicate seamlessly to orchestrate the delivery process.

A. The Consumer App:

  • Proximity-Based Access: The app remains in a "listening" state. Users can only view and purchase items when a relevant delivery car enters their defined area.
  • Smart Notifications: Users receive alerts (e.g., "Fresh items are in your neighborhood!") triggered instantly by the driver's entry into the GeoFence.
  • Instant Checkout: Streamlined flow to ensure the order is placed while the car is still nearby.

B. The Driver App:

  • Live Navigation: Receives orders and customer locations in real-time.
  • Inventory Management: Tracks what stock is currently in the vehicle.
  • Route Optimization: Helps the driver navigate to the customer quickly to meet the 5-15 minute deadline.

Results

Our collaboration allowed the client to move from a theoretical concept to a physical operation within a short timeframe.

  • Speed to Market: In just 6 months, we delivered two fully functional iOS applications with complex location logic.
  • Proof of Concept: The Client was able to launch the MVP in the UAE market, allowing them to test the logistics, driver behaviors, and user engagement with the "instant delivery" model in real life.
  • Technical Reliability: We successfully solved the challenge of syncing moving inventory with stationary users, creating a seamless experience that relied on background location tracking without draining user device batteries.
