Building a Reliable Cloud Infrastructure for Radiology Reporting Solution
Challenge
The platform had no infrastructure documentation, strict availability and disaster recovery requirements, and large volumes of fragmented data spread across multiple databases. Delivering client-facing analytics without custom builds while maintaining cost efficiency in a regulated radiology environment added further complexity to an already constrained operational baseline where any service disruption directly impacts clinical diagnostic workflows.

Solution
A dedicated system administrator integrated directly with OpenRad's team, conducted rapid infrastructure assessment, and rebuilt the environment using proven open-source technologies: Proxmox VE for virtualisation, Proxmox Backup Server with consistency verification, RedHat Ansible for automated administration, and Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring and proactive alerting. Disaster recovery scenarios were defined, tested, and documented. In parallel, a BI developer aggregated data across multiple databases, resolved consistency and access challenges, and built a standardised Power BI dashboard template with client-level customisation.

Results
Enterprise-grade infrastructure with full monitoring, automation, and tested disaster recovery delivered. Comprehensive documentation produced from zero. Unified BI layer enabled clients to monitor performance, usage, and workload trends without manual reporting. Client-facing analytics became a differentiable platform capability — reducing support overhead and opening monetisation potential for OpenRad.
