Challenge

Occupational therapists often struggle to efficiently recommend therapy-related products to their clients. The traditional process of sending lists, screenshots, or unlinked store items creates confusion, wastes time, and lacks personalization.

The client — AskSamie, a HealthTech startup — aimed to simplify and personalize the product recommendation process by connecting therapy professionals and patients through a seamless e-commerce experience. The platform needed to enable therapists to:

Create customized carts of recommended products directly from a Shopify store;
Add personalized notes and explanations for each recommendation;
Share recommendations securely with clients through a simple link or downloadable PDF — without requiring user accounts or complex patient portals.
The main challenges included designing a secure and frictionless integration with Shopify, building a robust cart pre-creation mechanism, and ensuring the platform was scalable, intuitive, and compliant with health-related data management standards.

Solution

The Jellyfish.tech team developed a fully functional platform integrating directly with the Shopify API to streamline the therapist–client interaction process.

Key technical implementations:

Shopify API Integration: Built a smooth connection allowing therapists to generate pre-filled carts with items, notes, and personalized explanations that open directly in Shopify — no client login required.
Pre-Creation Mechanism for Carts: Designed a backend system that allows therapists to create and manage carts linked to unique, secure URLs. Each link preserves context, product selection, and therapist notes.
Advanced Diagnosis List: Integrated a dynamic database of diagnoses, enabling therapists to map recommendations to specific client needs. Admins can update and customize this list easily.
Therapist Management Panel: Developed an admin dashboard to manage therapist accounts, permissions, and activity tracking.
Enhanced Search and Tagging System: Implemented advanced search filters and a tagging mechanism, allowing quick retrieval and organization of carts, items, or clients.
User Experience & Security: Focused on an intuitive UX with a minimal learning curve while maintaining data privacy and security in all therapist–client interactions.
Technologies used: Python, React, Shopify API, Tailwind CSS.
The system’s architecture was built for flexibility, allowing for easy feature extensions and scaling as the platform grows.

Results

The result is a powerful and user-friendly platform that revolutionizes how occupational therapists recommend and share products.

Key outcomes:

Frictionless workflow: Therapists can now create and share tailored product carts in seconds.
Improved client experience: Clients receive clear, personalized recommendations with direct purchase links — no logins or extra steps required.
Operational efficiency: Automation of cart generation and tagging reduced manual administrative time by over 60%.
Scalable infrastructure: The system can easily accommodate more therapists, clients, and integrations as the platform expands.
Strong adoption: AskSamie is now actively used by therapy professionals as a trusted tool for product recommendations, setting a new benchmark in HealthTech–eCommerce integration.
The collaboration between AskSamie and Jellyfish.tech demonstrates how well-designed technology can enhance accessibility, personalization, and efficiency in healthcare support workflows.
