Challenge

Chandrana Supermarket, one of Kenya's leading grocery retail chains with more than 30 physical stores, was facing significant operational and customer experience challenges due to its outdated digital commerce infrastructure. Their existing online grocery platform lacked scalability, modern shopping features, and backend automation, making it difficult to meet the increasing demand for seamless online grocery shopping.

The absence of a dedicated picker application resulted in inefficient warehouse operations, delayed order processing, and inaccurate order fulfillment. Inventory synchronization across multiple stores was also a major challenge because there was no centralized stock management system, causing frequent stock mismatches and customer dissatisfaction.

Customers experienced limited payment options, resulting in checkout friction and abandoned purchases. Delivery management was largely manual, making scheduling and fulfillment inconsistent. The website itself suffered from slow loading speeds, poor responsiveness, and outdated UI/UX, negatively impacting customer engagement and conversions.

Additionally, the business lacked a structured loyalty program, reducing customer retention opportunities. Navigation was complicated, product discovery was inefficient, and the platform could not effectively support omnichannel grocery operations such as store pickup, home delivery, and geolocation-based shopping.

Overall, Chandrana required a complete digital commerce transformation capable of modernizing operations, improving customer satisfaction, automating inventory and fulfillment, supporting mobile applications, and creating a scalable platform that could support long-term business growth across Kenya.

Solution

Magneto IT Solutions completely transformed Chandrana Supermarket's digital commerce ecosystem by rebuilding its online grocery platform using Magento 2 alongside Android and iOS mobile applications. The new solution focused on improving operational efficiency, customer experience, and scalability.

A dedicated Picker App was developed for warehouse staff, enabling faster and more accurate order picking. ERP integration synchronized inventory across multiple stores in real time, eliminating stock inconsistencies and improving inventory visibility.

To enhance customer convenience, geofencing functionality was implemented so shoppers could automatically connect with their nearest Chandrana store. Customers were also given flexible fulfillment options, including scheduled home delivery and click-and-collect store pickup.

The checkout experience was significantly enhanced through secure integration with ABSA Bank and M-Pesa payment gateways, providing customers with reliable and convenient payment methods. A loyalty program powered by nGage was introduced, allowing customer registration via SMS and OTP verification while rewarding repeat purchases.

The website received a complete UI/UX redesign with faster page performance, responsive layouts, simplified navigation, advanced filtering, Mega Menu implementation, and Algolia-powered intelligent search. Automated catalog management, order processing, delivery integration through REST APIs, return management, and store credit functionality further streamlined backend operations.

The final solution delivered a highly scalable omnichannel grocery commerce platform that supports efficient operations, improved customer engagement, and long-term digital growth for Chandrana Supermarket.

Results

The digital transformation significantly improved both business operations and customer experience for Chandrana Supermarket. The implementation of Magento 2, ERP integration, mobile applications, and automation enabled the company to efficiently manage inventory across more than 30 retail stores while minimizing stock discrepancies.

Warehouse productivity increased substantially after deploying the Picker App, allowing staff to process customer orders faster and with greater accuracy. Automated order processing, delivery scheduling, and inventory synchronization reduced operational bottlenecks and improved fulfillment efficiency.

Customers benefited from an intuitive shopping experience featuring faster website performance, responsive design, intelligent product search powered by Algolia, advanced filtering, and simplified navigation. Multiple fulfillment options including store pickup and home delivery improved shopping flexibility.

The addition of secure payment gateways such as M-Pesa and ABSA simplified online transactions, while the nGage Loyalty Program strengthened customer engagement through personalized rewards and repeat purchase incentives.

Backend teams gained better control through automated catalog management, ERP-driven inventory updates, store credit automation, and API-based return management.

According to the company, the grocery platform achieved measurable business improvements including:

30% increase in sales
15% increase in conversion rate
46% reduction in abandoned carts
89% improvement in customer satisfaction
These improvements positioned Chandrana Supermarket with a scalable, modern omnichannel grocery platform capable of supporting continued business expansion and delivering a superior digital shopping experience.
