Challenge

Small and medium enterprises in Zimbabwe often struggle to access timely financing against their outstanding trade receivables. Traditional invoice discounting processes were manual, opaque, and slow, forcing suppliers to wait long periods before receiving payment for goods and services already delivered. There was no centralized, transparent marketplace connecting sellers of trade receivables with a broad network of institutional buyers and financiers. Existing systems lacked standardization for exchange transactions, made risk assessment difficult for financiers, and offered no efficient way to disburse funds quickly once an auction was settled. The client needed a secure, auction-based digital platform that could bring structure, speed, and trust to the receivables financing process while remaining compliant with local financial regulations.

Solution

NKU Technologies designed and developed Factority, an auction-based online marketplace that connects sellers of trade receivables with a broad network of institutional buyers and financiers. The platform standardizes exchange transactions so receivables can be listed, bid on, and settled through a consistent, transparent process. Key modules built include supplier and buyer auction management, balance sheet benefit and risk adjustment tools, flexible contract arrangement workflows, and smart funds management for tracking disbursement and trade activity. The system also integrates payment channel interfacing to enable quick funds disposal once auctions close. The solution was architected using a scalable, cloud-based, N-tier framework to ensure high availability and security, with real-time dashboards giving both suppliers and financiers visibility into auction status, funding requirements by month, and overall marketplace activity.

Results

The Factority platform gave Zimbabwean SMEs a faster, more transparent route to unlock working capital tied up in unpaid invoices. By digitizing and standardizing the auction process, the platform reduced the time needed to convert receivables into cash and gave financiers clearer, data-driven risk visibility before committing funds. Real-time dashboards on auction volume, funds required by month, and business-sector-wise opportunities improved decision-making for both suppliers and buyers. The marketplace approach broadened access to financing beyond a small pool of traditional lenders, helping SMEs maintain cash flow and continue operations without lengthy payment delays. The successful delivery of Factority also reinforced NKU Technologies' credentials in the fintech and receivables financing space, with the platform now positioned as one of the company's flagship products.
