A leading Slovenian telecom operator engaged Expert Soft to migrate its ecommerce platform from SAP Commerce on-premise to SAP Commerce Cloud, aiming to improve long-term scalability, performance, and maintainability.

Solution

Technical Execution

The project began with a version upgrade from SAP Commerce 6.6 to 2011 and a shift to Java 18. We conducted extensive code refactoring, using SonarQube to detect architectural inefficiencies, deprecated dependencies, and hidden vulnerabilities. Then, we smoothly transitioned the system to the cloud. System observability was enhanced through Kibana, and Smart Edit was introduced for dynamic content control.

Key technical challenges included slow PDP load times and inefficient Solr behavior. We restructured Solr indexing, split large documents for faster faceted search, and implemented advanced caching—resulting in an 8x improvement in page load performance.

We also re-engineered the pricing engine, transitioning from B2C Accelerator to Telco Accelerator and supporting telecom-specific purchase models, including binding, standalone, and loyalty offers.
