Solution
Migration Strategy
Our primary responsibility was migrating the API Gateway, a central component with high service dependency. To ensure service continuity, we adopted a parallel testing approach, running both legacy Kubernetes and new Amazon EKS environments concurrently. This allowed for immediate rollback and failover without service disruption, guaranteeing a zero-downtime migration.
Frequent routing configuration changes across internal teams posed challenges during cutover. We coordinated updates, resolved routing conflicts, and ensured consistent request handling across environments. Comprehensive testing of all updated service URLs and endpoints helped preserve inter-service communication and system integrity.
Modernization via Java Upgrade
In parallel, we migrated all microservices to Java 21 and the latest Spring Boot version. Using Amazon Q, an AI-powered developer tool, we automated dependency scanning, compatibility analysis, and upgrade path planning. This reduced manual overhead, accelerated delivery, and minimized potential regressions across services.
