Challenge

To effectively resolve the client’s issues, it's essential to implement a reliable system that accurately detects both the precise moment a user interacts with the screen—such as through a tap, swipe, or touch—and the exact timing at which a new image is rendered and displayed. By synchronizing these two key events with high-resolution timestamps, the system can determine the causal relationship between interaction and visual feedback. This helps identify any latency or rendering delays, allowing developers to optimize performance and enhance the user experience, especially in time-sensitive applications like gaming, media, or interactive content.

Solution

Built a highly optimized interaction manager within the native layers of both iOS and Android to accurately capture user screen interactions and image display timing. This manager was seamlessly bridged to React Native, enabling consistent performance tracking, gesture responsiveness, and enhanced analytics integration across platforms. The implementation ensured low-latency communication between the native and JavaScript threads, improving app responsiveness and user experience in critical UI flows.

Results

Mindlogger is a versatile, open-source data collection platform designed to administer a broad spectrum of mental health and cognitive assessments. It supports customizable applets, enabling researchers, clinicians, and educators to collect data through surveys, activities, and assessments on mobile devices. One of the current developments focuses on implementing a precise time-capturing functionality within the app. This feature is crucial for accurately recording user responses, enabling more reliable analysis of response times, behavioral patterns, and cognitive performance under various conditions. Such precision is especially valuable in longitudinal studies and real-time monitoring scenarios.
