Challenge

A top European bank's existing cloud infrastructure was not scalable enough to support the rapidly increasing demands of its digital services. The Bank needed to redesign its cloud infrastructure to accommodate the growing number of mobile banking apps, vendors, employees, and customers interacting with their systems. The Bank turned to Seidor Opentrends to develop a custom private multi-cloud environment that provided the flexibility, resilience, and integration capabilities to encompass the bank's business.

Solution

Development of a custom private multi-cloud environment. A custom DevOps and CI/CD pipeline was developed for scalable cloud architecture to support hundreds of internal, external, and internet applications with thousands of functionalities. Cloud architecture was based on Cloud Foundry, with custom API layers developed for native integrations with various vendors. Opentrends upgraded the cloud platforms to IBM private clouds, including containerization with Kubernetes and automated testing. The migration process included a deployment management process across all vendors. The environment supports 16 IT vendors, 60+ developers, and 22,000+ builds per month in 7 different cloud environments.

Results

The solution has reduced app deployment time from two months on-premises to only two days on the new cloud platform, and it supports over 10 million active users, 400+ mobile banking and web apps, and peaks of 9,000 transactions per second. Seidor Opentrends maintains today the cloud infrastructure, supporting the bank's high volume of diverse vendors, applications, use cases, and transactions.
