Five years of paper-based task tracking leaves a mark. When the client finally moved to an in-house app, the problems didn't go away, they just got harder to see: field worker activity remained a black box, client escalations kept coming, and the moment connectivity dropped — in a basement, underground, anywhere signal doesn't reach — the system simply stopped working.

The deeper problem wasn't the tools, it was the architecture. Every time a new task type appeared — a faucet repair, a meter check, an area cleaning — the app had to be rebuilt to handle it. Dispatchers had no real-time picture of what was happening across the field. Workers drove inefficient routes between jobs with no guidance. Instead of hardcoding flows for each task type, the app renders screens dynamically from a server-defined schema with branching steps and data validation. Adding a new task type requires no app update — just a schema change. This is what makes the platform actually adoptable across a utility operation where task variety is constant.

Offline-first is not a feature, it's the foundation. Every action writes locally and syncs when coverage returns. No failed sessions, no data loss, no mid-job reconnect screens. The sync layer is smart enough to prioritize what matters most when connection resumes.

Fraud prevention is structural rather than supervisory. Sequential steps, GPS timestamps, and locked photo metadata make it impossible to skip or fake work — honest workers are protected automatically, bad actors are caught without a separate audit pass.

The platform handles 500+ concurrent field workers with sub-second task updates in connected mode, scales to 3,000 total users without performance degradation, and keeps all-day field use efficient through optimized local storage.

Results

The platform went from kickoff to deployment in 2.5 months — fast enough to actually replace the failing system before it caused further operational damage.
