Challenge

ShroomRadar needed a custom marketplace platform for a niche US e-commerce vertical where location was the primary discovery factor.

A standard feed-based marketplace could not support the way buyers were expected to search and purchase. Users needed to see nearby sellers, available products, distance, storefront details, and checkout options directly from a map-based interface.

The key product challenges were:

  • Build map-based discovery as the main UX pattern, not as a secondary filter
  • Support multi-vendor ecommerce with seller storefronts and product listings
  • Make onboarding simple for sellers with no ecommerce or technical background
  • Handle geolocation search, product discovery, payments, admin tools, and compliance-sensitive flows in one product
  • Avoid the limitations of template marketplace platforms, which could not support the required location logic and custom seller workflows

The platform had to feel simple for buyers and sellers, while still supporting a scalable backend, structured operations, and future marketplace growth.

Solution

We covered the full product and technical delivery: product strategy, UX/UI design, full-stack development, marketplace architecture, seller onboarding, RBAC, admin tooling, payment integrations, and infrastructure setup.

The platform was built around four core layers:

  1. Marketplace backend
Built with Laravel 12, PHP 8.2, PostgreSQL 15, Redis, and Elasticsearch for seller, product, and location search.

  2. Frontend experience
Developed as a server-side rendered Next.js application with Tailwind CSS, giving buyers a fast and responsive marketplace interface.

  3. Map-based discovery
The map became the main product surface. Instead of sending every query directly to Google Maps API, we built a custom data layer for sellers and listings. This reduced API dependency and kept search results in the 20-30ms range under real load.

  4. Seller and admin operations
Sellers can create storefronts, publish products, appear on the map, and start selling without a separate website. RBAC was implemented with Laravel Sanctum and Spatie permissions across SuperAdmin, Admin, Retailer, and Consumer roles. The admin panel runs on Laravel Nova.

Payments support fiat checkout and crypto via CoinPayments. We also built a marketplace design system with 50+ reusable components, including store builders, product cards, map pins, live filters, checkout states, and seller management views.

Results

Launched as a custom multi-vendor ecommerce platform with map-based discovery, seller storefronts, geolocation search, and scalable marketplace operations.

Key results included:

  • 550+ active sellers onboarded at launch
  • 23,000+ live, searchable product listings available from day one
  • 20-30ms typical search response time for map-based seller and product discovery
  • Self-serve seller onboarding for users with no ecommerce or technical background
  • Support for fiat checkout and crypto payments in one marketplace flow
  • 50+ reusable marketplace UI components delivered as part of the design system

The map experience became the core marketplace interaction rather than a slow feature layered on top of a standard product feed. Buyers could discover nearby sellers and products faster, while sellers could create storefronts and begin selling without support intervention.

The final result was a scalable Laravel and Next.js marketplace platform combining geolocation logic, ecommerce workflows, payment flows, seller operations, and admin control in one product.
