Yashu Kapila

Techreviewer spoke with Yashu Kapila, CEO of BugRaptors - Software Testing Company.

Could you describe the company where you work and your role there?

BugRaptors is an independent software testing company established in 2016. We provide Quality Assurance and Testing services for all kind of applications, software, and website in order to keep our clients compliant to defined quality standards and end user needs. We deal in QA process consulting, Build-Operate-Transfer model testing, capacity augmentation through functional and automation testing, along with support on independent validation & verification.

As long as it is concerned with my role at BugRaptors, I am the CEO of the company. Being the face of the organization, I always aim to use my experience on fostering digital transformations in the QA industry while driving strong business ethics and high human values.  From defining processes to leading operations, I always prefer to have an active participation at all levels to ensure quality and righteousness.

What are the benefits of employing BugRaptors?

With a highly dedicated team of ISTQB certified testing experts and all the latest tools in the industry, our testing and QA services are not restricted to software/application development companies. Therefore, BugRaptors brings the promise of Quality engineering serving a wide range of industry verticals for their software quality needs. Some of these include retail, telecom, healthcare, banking, finances, insurance, media, government, and more.

Besides, we bring you an experience of serving more than 1000 clients from across the globe which even include several MNCs and Fortune 500 brands. We have already squashed more than half a million bugs and provide assured support on zero defect leakage and errors.

What should an enterprise business consider before selecting a testing company?

Since I have reached the current point in my career after giving more than 15 years of my life to different roles and responsibilities associated with software testing, I strongly believe that any enterprise business should team up with a QA company that aligns well with their needs. It should be a solution provider who needs to understand the purpose, scope, and goals of the application or software in order to provide relevant QA services.

More importantly, the testing company should have an approach that aims at creating relationships for life through impactful results. And such outcomes could only be nurtured through strong experience, values, and highly dedicated service models that are oriented to offer convenience to the clients as it is all what they seek.

What distinguishing features make testing companies the most appealing to enterprise?

Some of the most important aspect about a QA company that can capture the client’s attention is the CMMi certification. For instance, BugRaptors is a division of Seasia group, a CMMi level 5 certified brand assuring customers of highest quality and lowest risk on tech solutions.

Though relevance, experience, past references are a few things that are most highlighted when it comes to hiring a testing company, the next factor that may alter the choice of the enterprise looking for testing company could be the engagement models provided. This is because any enterprise looking for some QA support have varying support requirements as some may need QA teams to work directly with their DevOps while some need partial or time to time assistance.

Last but not least, it is the cost factor that makes the most value. After all every enterprise looking for some QA support would go for a brand that offers the most value at most efficient prices.

COVID-19

How has COVID-19 affected your company? How has it changed your processes? What challenges has the pandemic added to your and your team daily work?

COVID-19, like on any other business led BugRaptors towards some downtime. Since the world was not informed and prepared on the seriousness of the situation, the IT industry had to face so many ups and downs. As long as it is concerned to BugRaptors, our resilience strategy and timely management worked well to keep things on track. COVID-19 made us explore the path to remote operations which otherwise would have never been explored.

Actually, COVID-19 helped us to make our operational processes more streamlined with timely checks implemented to all the work done. As long as it is concerned with me and my team, we constantly kept in sync with each other to ensure that we don’t miss on anything that can bother our clients after deliveries. Though it earlier felt a bit challenging to establish coordination between the teams, it was the honest efforts and wise use of technology that made us implement our business resilience plan.

How has the pandemic affected your clients?

COVID-19 had some serious effects on our clients since we serve people across industries like healthcare, finance, banking, retail, transportation, real estate, public sector projects, manufacturing, etc. All these industries had to face security challenges with their internal and external operations while those who tried taking the route to remote practices, find it difficult shifting to modern software based on cloud platforms.

Has COVID-19 influenced your marketing strategies? What are the main channels you use to promote your services now?

COVID-19 introduced the entire business world, irrespective of the industry to the concept of resilience and business continuity. And this thing significantly changed our marketing strategies since it brought our focus to the idea of security and advanced remote solutions required to meet the changing business requirements. We become more focused on targeting the audience that need help with Quality Assurance. COVID-19 made people understand the importance of quality to keep their operations running smooth and safe, allowing us to upgrade our marketing tactics.

Since most businesses these days are taking the advantage of social media to expand their reach, we are taking maximum advantage of Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to leverage our services. Besides, I believe that LinkedIn is one of the most advanced platforms that gives you the opportunity to build some great professional relationships and have the most impactful collaborations.

Projects & Clients

What are the key factors that you consider when making a project estimation and proposal for a new client? What is the most challenging situation you have faced during your work?

Defining a project estimate and proposal is a tricky process since every client has its own varying requirements and objectives. Therefore, our estimation process starts with working on the requirements of the project followed by the resources and tools required. On the basis of this information, we suggest our clients with available engagement models that will best suit their needs.

Though our team is well equipped and experienced enough to take on any challenges, the only challenge that might disturb the project is sudden or unexpected change in requirements or scope of project.

In your opinion, what will happen to the cost of a software product in which a defect that could have been removed during the initial stage of testing is removed/fixed later?

This can be a very hampering process when you have to deal with an error at the later stage of project which could be initially fixed. Removing a defect at the initial stage of development allows you to write a healthy code and ensure that final deliveries meet the end user’s objectives. However, any defect that is transferred to the end of the software development lifecycle could make the defect flow into the code creating so many complications with the compilation.

What to do if there is no Functional Spec or any documents related to the system and developer who wrote the code does not work in the company anymore, but you have a system and need to test?

In such situation, we perform exploratory testing. This testing is based on the experience and knowledge of testing other similar apps available in the market. We can learn about the purpose and objective of the application by talking to other people involved like Business Analysts.

If we have access to the older test cases that can also give the high-level scope of the testing and remaining we will pick up by exploring the app.

What test cases can your company automate?

  • Repetitive tests
  • Tests that have chances of human error on continuous testing
  • Test cases that involve multiple data sets
  • High risk functionalities
  • Tests that can only be performed through automation.

From your experience, what are the best practices to attain client satisfaction?

There are a few steps that you need to follow for attaining client satisfaction. These have always worked for me as a business leader and I hope these will definitely work for anyone who need to achieve customer sustainability. These include:

  • Always being proactive to your customer’s needs.
  • Practicing strong business ethics and values (trust, righteousness, and honesty).
  • Always understand your customers through clear questioning.
  • Keep in sync with them to have their inputs at all stages of SDLC to deliver precisely on their needs.
