
Booking Platform Compatibility and Functional Tests
Challenge
Micazu is a Dutch marketplace for private holiday home rentals, allowing travelers to book homes in more than 50 countries directly from property owners. The platform had been live since 2010 when the client requested comprehensive website testing.
The key challenge was to assess both functionality and appearance across different devices and browsers without disrupting real users, owners, or bookings on the production platform. The team first had to review all pages and determine which functionality could be safely tested in a live environment. Access to the website was limited to the Netherlands, so testing also required simulating access from that location. The work needed to cover the agreed booking-related functionality while excluding areas the client did not require or that could not be safely tested on a live platform.

Solution
Micazu requested a single full-site testing round with a defined scope, so the engagement was delivered using a testing-by-estimate model. Before work began, the team provided the client with the expected time and cost.
Three QA engineers conducted cross-browser and cross-device testing. Because the website was accessible only from the Netherlands, the team used a VPN to simulate local access. A dedicated test booking account with a rental property was requested so the QA engineers could examine booking features, submit questions to owners, leave property feedback, and test user flows without affecting real customers or property owners.
After agreeing on the pages and functionality in scope, the team prepared test documentation and a checklist covering the required user journeys, devices, and browsers. As Micazu did not use a bug-tracking system, defects and checklist results were documented in a Google Spreadsheet, adapting reporting to the client’s existing workflow.
