
Full Web Testing for a 3D Virtual World
Challenge
Solarflare Studio is a London-based creative technology studio that develops interactive digital experiences, including data visualizations, virtual events, augmented reality environments, educational environments, and social metaverse projects. The client created a custom virtual 3D world for a major sports event, where users could create avatars, explore locations, complete mission-based minigames, add friends, and participate in activities.
Before the event launch, Solarflare Studio needed full web testing for the 3D world. The project was built from scratch and lacked comprehensive documentation, so QA Madness had to work primarily with Figma designs. Development and testing happened in parallel in the same environment, while the fixed event launch date created a tight testing window. QA needed to prioritize stable functionality, adapt coverage as new features were added, and identify critical issues before release.

The team estimated the required testing hours, resources, and cost from the project scope, then performed functional testing and interface testing after Solarflare Studio approved the proposed approach.
To work within the fixed deadline, QA Madness involved experienced QA specialists and prepared testing checklists in advance. The checklists were continuously updated as designs and requirements changed. QA engineers prioritized completed and stable features, added new functionality to the testing scope as it became available, and tracked the status of logged defects to monitor debugging.
When Figma designs did not fully clarify expected behavior, the QA team requested clarification from Solarflare Studio or used its experience to determine appropriate testing scenarios. The QA process covered registration, user accounts, avatar behavior, access to virtual locations, mission flows, navigation, character interaction, and cross-device behavior.
