Challenge

The client, a game development studio creating interactive mobile and PC games, placed user experience at the center of its development approach. To support this quality-focused strategy, the company needed a structured QA process that could be established from scratch and integrated into the development workflow.

The client was looking for QA specialists who could take responsibility for testing newly developed features, monitor the overall quality of the game, and prepare builds for regular deployments. Since the product was evolving through continuous updates and patches, the testing approach also needed to cover different mobile devices and operating system versions while preventing critical defects from reaching new builds.

Solution

QA Madness joined the project at an early development stage and established the QA process in close cooperation with the client’s team. The first step was to understand the game’s logic, settings, goals, levels, and other core mechanics, as well as finalize the Android and iOS devices used for testing.

Two QA engineers currently work on the project and test the game’s full functionality throughout development sprints. The testing scope includes exploratory, functional, UI, compatibility, performance, smoke, and regression testing. QA engineers verify game mechanics and visual elements, check behavior across mobile devices and operating system versions, and use development tools to assess frame rates, loading times, memory usage, battery drain, and responsiveness.

Smoke testing is performed after builds to verify core functionality, while regression testing is used after fixes and new feature implementations to ensure existing functionality remains stable. The QA team also provides recommendations related to user experience and overall product quality, working as an integrated part of the client’s development process.

Results

The QA process became an integrated part of the client’s development workflow, with two QA engineers actively participating in development activities and regular team meetings. The established process provides defined areas of responsibility and continuous testing throughout sprints, updates, and patches.

The QA team proactively identifies bugs of different severity levels at an early stage and helps prevent blockers and critical defects from reaching new builds. Testing across multiple mobile devices and operating system versions also supports the stability of the game as its functionality evolves.

Beyond defect detection, QA engineers regularly provide recommendations concerning user experience and other aspects of the product. The client has incorporated this feedback into the development process and reported an overall improvement in the game’s quality and stability during the ongoing cooperation.
