Challenge

Sport Faction, a French Web3 mobile game studio combining mobile gaming, sports, and NFTs, needed to establish a structured QA process from scratch for its gaming platform. The client required a QA specialist who could define the appropriate testing scope and coverage, prepare test documentation, and integrate software testing into the existing development workflow.

Since the platform was a mobile game with a Web3 and NFT component, experience in mobile game testing was particularly important. The QA specialist also needed to work with both the application's frontend and part of its backend while ensuring that testing activities could be incorporated into the team's established development process.

The challenge involved not only finding and reporting defects, but also creating a repeatable QA workflow that would support feature acceptance, regular releases, and quality control throughout ongoing development.

Solution

QA Madness provided a full-time QA engineer to establish the testing process and work with the application's frontend and partial backend. The specialist first performed exploratory testing to become familiar with the product and use the findings to prepare the foundation for further testing.

The QA process included comprehensive documentation covering the release flow, user-story task flows, and the bug life cycle, including defect reporting and management. This created a clear structure for QA activities and made the testing workflow easier to understand and track across the team.

The QA engineer defined and performed several types of testing according to the product's needs. Functional and UI testing were used for feature acceptance, while performance testing was performed after code optimization and environment changes. Compatibility testing checked the application's behavior across different mobile devices. Smoke testing was performed before every release to verify core functionality, while regression testing confirmed that existing features continued to work after code iterations.

QA activities were integrated into three-week development sprints using dedicated Kanban boards. The QA engineer participated in sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and monthly team meetings to keep testing aligned with development.

Results

The QA process established by QA Madness provided Sport Faction with structured testing coverage and a repeatable workflow for its mobile gaming platform. During the first four months, the team identified defects across core functionality as well as design and requirements.

Critical issues accounted for 18% of all detected bugs, including defects that affected core functionality and could make the software difficult or impossible to use. More than three-quarters of the identified bugs were fixed during the first four months, with the development team addressing them within sprints before releases.

In addition to functional defects, the QA engineer identified issues in the product's design and requirements, giving the development team actionable feedback for further improvements. Regular functional, UI, compatibility, performance, smoke, and regression testing helped maintain quality throughout the ongoing development and release cycle.
