Challenge

Lunaphore, a Swiss company developing software and hardware for ultra-fast tissue analysis, needed a reliable QA partner to test its innovative desktop software products. The cooperation initially started with the LabSat® project. After six months, following successful collaboration, Lunaphore engaged QA Madness to work on its next product, COMET, a custom hyperplex panels solution.

The main challenge was to establish a structured testing process and create comprehensive testing documentation for software operating laboratory hardware. The documentation needed to fully reflect the product requirements while maintaining a consistent and standardized structure.

The materials also had to comply with Lunaphore's internal rules and be easy for other specialists to understand and use in the future, including team members who had not participated in the product's development from the beginning. This required QA Madness to understand the software-hardware interaction, learn domain-specific terminology, analyze the requirements, and translate them into practical testing documentation and scenarios.

Solution

QA Madness established a structured testing process covering requirements analysis, test documentation creation, client approval, and execution of functional and GUI testing.

The team first met with Lunaphore's development team to learn about the product, its functionality, and how the desktop software interacted with the laboratory device. QA specialists also familiarized themselves with the terminology related to tissue analysis and the specific terms used by Lunaphore.

Next, QA Madness analyzed the product requirements for relevance, consistency, and their applicability to realistic testing scenarios. The findings were presented to the client, allowing the requirements to be clarified and finalized before the documentation was prepared.

Based on the approved requirements, QA Madness created structured testing documentation and submitted it to Lunaphore for approval. The team then executed testing according to the documentation, focusing on functional and GUI aspects of the desktop software.

The QA team also provided feedback on the testing process and identified opportunities to make testing more efficient, including combining certain tests and improving aspects of the product's user interface.

Results

QA Madness delivered standardized testing documentation that gave Lunaphore's development team a structured foundation for product testing and further development. The documentation included a detailed test plan with clear testing steps and instructions that could also be used by specialists who had not been involved in the project from the beginning.

Functional and GUI testing provided the client with additional feedback on the software's quality and usability. QA Madness identified issues and improvement opportunities and shared recommendations for optimizing the testing process.

The team suggested ways to combine certain tests to make the process more efficient and provided feedback on the product's UI. Lunaphore's development team used the testing reports to improve product quality and fix detected issues, helping support a more streamlined development and release process.
